The Producers

The Producers is not like any other movie you'll see in this day in age. It's (gasp) a musical! Yes, it's a musical with full dance numbers. And it's great. It's refreshing to see something new even though, it is (sigh) another remake. It is so outrageous that can't not be written by Mel Brooks. I mean really "Springtime for Hitler"! Wow, genius. The story is about a Brodway producer Max Bialystock (Nathan Lane) and his accountant Leo Bloom (Matthew Broderick). They find out that in theory one could make more money putting on a flop than a hit. So they go on a mission to find the worst play, the worst director, and the worst actors to put on the worst Brodway performance of all time. They stumble accross a play called 'Springtime for Hitler' and the hilarity ensues. And the addition of Will Ferrell as the leiderhosen clad former Nazi playwriter Franz Liebkind just makes it all that funnier. The acting is extreamly over the top but then again it is that way in all most musicals. I highly enjoyed it though. Most of the humor is slapstick but it's pretty witty too. It also features 'Beautiful Girls Wearing Nothing But Pearls' and Uma Thurman in a scantly clad dress (see above). That all adds to the final result which is.
